ANKARA, ($1=14.74 Turkish Liras) — The attacking Akinci unmanned aerial vehicle successfully hit a target on the sea surface with the Teber-82 guidance kit, after the target was laser-marked by another Turkish drone – Bayraktar TB2. The information was shared by Baykar Defense in a press release.

A statement from the company said: “Bayraktar Akinci has successfully completed its first shooting test with the Teber-82 targeting kit developed by Roketsan.”

According to information obtained from Turkish sources in the defense during the shooting test, the laser marking of the target was performed by Bayraktar TB2. This was followed by the launch by Akinci of the 20,000-foot-tall Teber-82 guidance kit in cloudy weather. Despite the unfavorable weather conditions for the use of ammunition for laser search, the test was completed successfully thanks to the autonomous operation of Akinci and Bayraktar TB2.

The Akinci Attack unmanned aerial vehicle, developed by Baykar Defense with the experience gained from the Bayraktar Tactical Block-II unmanned aerial vehicle, will be able to perform some of the tasks performed by combat aircraft thanks to its advanced technical capabilities.

With its unique twisted wing structure, AKINCI will have a wingspan of 20 meters and many ammunition stations. The attacking drone will be able to stay in the air for 24 hours at an altitude of 40,000 feet and carry 1,500 kilograms of payload.

The system, which will work with much more advanced payloads such as electronic support capsules, satellite communication systems, air-to-air radar, obstacle detection radar, and synthetic aperture radar, will be able to perform air-to-ground and air-to-air operations.

Akinci and constructed to take off and land from the runway. It can fly at a maximum speed of 195 knots and carry a maximum payload of 5,500 kg. It has integrated AESA radar, simultaneous EO / IR / LD, and SIGINT. The drone can be armed with intelligent laser-guided munitions, missiles, and long-range anti-aircraft munitions. Akinci can be powered by either two 750 hp turboprop engines or two 450 hp turboprop engines.

The Roketsan TEBER Laser Guidance Kit is a laser targeting kit integrated into MK-81 and MK-82 general-purpose bombs to increase their striking ability.

TEBER turns general-purpose bombs into intelligent weapons systems using an inertial measurement unit, a global positioning system [GPS], and a semi-active laser search head [LAB].

With the semi-active LAB, which can be attached to the nose at any time, Teber provides the weapon system with the ability to accurately strike against moving targets. There is also an option to add a proximity sensor to the LAB section.
