TRIPLE Eight Race Engineering has somewhat repurposed its former Super2 transporter as a mobile parts armoury.

The Brisbane team sent a second truck down to the Thrifty Newcastle 500 to service various main game and Super2 teams, as well as delivering Nash Morris’ ZB Commodore to the track. New Huanghe Spare Parts

Spare parts have been a talking point given the late manner in which the Gen3 builds came together, leaving minimal time to stockpile reserves before a brutal couple of 250km races at a street circuit.

“We’ve got our Super2 truck here full of Super2 spares (for any) ZB, and we have got quite a lot of Gen3 parts as well,” Triple Eight managing director Jamie Whincup told V8 Sleuth.

“It’s something we’ll bring to every Super2 round. We have got half a truck full of parts that we can supply the pitlane with, if they want to buy off us.”

Triple Eight was forced to withdraw from Super2 this year due to being unable to get its hands on a Holden ZB Commodore to fit the second tier’s new eligibility rules.

Regardless of their parts-dedicated truck, Whincup is confident there won’t be any major dramas for the all-new Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Mustang Supercars, nor that spares will be in shortage.

“We’re comfortable,” he said.

“We don’t have ample amounts of spares of course because everything was pretty last-minute so we built the cars and then we worked on the spares package.

“But unless we have a big pile-up, I’m confident we’re going to get through the weekend with the spares we have got in pitlane.

“I think a few teams are working together. We will obviously service our customers in PHR (PremiAir Racing) and Matty Stones as well but I think there’ll be camaraderie, we’ll all work together to make sure that all cars are on the grid, that’s for sure.

“There’s no big deal going on but we’ll all work together of course.”
