Friday, Oct. 7 – Sunday, Oct. 9 Various times The Citadel campus Free, most events are open to the public

Relatives and friends of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets will be welcomed to campus during The Citadel’s annual Parents’ Weekend on Friday, Oct. 7 – Sunday, Oct. 9.

Highlights of the weekend include a Ring Presentation Ceremony for The Citadel Class of 2023, the promotion of fourth-class cadets from recruits to privates and a Saturday dress parade. There will also be a diverse range of religious services on Sunday, Oct. 9.

Another main event of the weekend will be when The Citadel takes on Furman University at Johnson Hagood Stadium. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.

Due to construction related to the Capers Hall replacement project, parking on campus is extremely limited. Carpooling or travelling to campus via taxi, Uber, Lyft or other service is highly recommended.

Thursday, Oct. 13 5:30 p.m. Holliday Alumni Center, 69 Hagood Ave. Free, open to the public

James Scott, Citadel Graduate College Class of 2022, is a celebrated historian and a 2016 Pulitzer Prize finalist.

On Thursday, Oct. 13, he will be providing a lecture and book signing for his newest publication, “Black Snow: Curtis LeMay, the Firebombing of Tokyo, and the Road to the Atom Bomb.”

Doors will open at 5 p.m., and the event begins at 5:30 p.m.

The book tells the complete story of the Tokyo firebombing, drawing extensively on first-person interviews in the United States and with survivors in Japan, air force archives and oral histories never before published in English.

Wednesday, Oct. 19 Various times The Citadel campus and locations throughout the community Open to the media

On Wednesday, Oct. 19, regularly scheduled classes are replaced with a Leadership Day training, seminar or service project for all cadets. The cadets will engage in service activities at more than 20 locations in the Lowcountry, such as leading classroom activities and cleaning up parks. They will also attend seminars on leadership and civic learning.

This year, Medal of Honor Recipient Sgt. Leroy Petry will be participating in Leadership Day activities. Legendary Football Coach and Analyst Lou Holtz will also speak to cadets for the event.

On average, more than 8,000 hours of service to the Lowcountry are provided by the cadets each Leadership Day, and more than 20,000 annually. The Krause Center for Leadership and Ethics sponsors the event.

A nearly $1 million donation from the alumni class permanently endowed the Class of 1979 Leadership Day.

The Citadel is hosting the Annual International Association for Intelligence Education (IAFIE) Conference from October 20 – 22 at the Holliday Alumni Center. The theme of this year’s conference is “Intelligence Education in a Contested World.”

The International Association for Intelligence Education (IAFIE) was established shortly after 9/11. The association’s purpose is to advance teaching standards and scholarly research in higher education and training as they pertain to intelligence. The annual conference brings together intelligence professionals, educators and trainers from the Washington, DC area, across the country, and abroad. Besides Washington DC, the conference has been held at numerous academic institutions across the United States, Australia, Canada, Italy and The Netherlands.

Saturday, Oct. 22 10:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. Grimsley Hall $35, open to high school students

The Citadel’s Department of Physics will host an Applied Physics Experience for high school students on Saturday, Oct. 22.

The event offers students the opportunity to have fun learning about physics, collaborating with Citadel faculty and cadets, make engaging devices and learn how they work.

Recent event projects include – biologically inspired light seeking robot, microphone sensor system- sound activated LEDs, DIY metal detector and mechanical laser light show.

Tickets are $35, which covers all supplies, snacks and lunch.

The Citadel’s Department of Cyber and Computer Sciences will hold multiple events throughout October, which is Cyber Security Awareness Month, for members of The Citadel community.

Cyber goodie bag giveaway at The Citadel vs. Furman volleyball game

Wednesday, Oct. 19 6 p.m. McAlister Field House Free, open to the public

Cadets and students with The Citadel DOD Cyber Institute (CDCI) will be at the volleyball game to educate fans about the importance of cybersecurity and ways to stay cyber safe. The CDCI student team will also distribute goodie bags celebrating Cybersecurity Awareness Month.

Women of Cybersecurity: Influence and Opportunities

Tuesday, Oct. 25 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Buyer Auditorium, Mark Clark Hall Free, open to the public

Wanda Jones-Heath, the principal cyber advisor for the Department of the Air Force, will deliver a keynote speech at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 25.

Jones-Heath will speak of her path to this field and the advice she would give other women interested in pursuing a career in cybersecurity. There will be time to speak and network with other attendees both before and after the event.

The Citadel Athletics is celebrating Leaders in Philanthropy, Medical Professionals Day and Football and Women’s Golf Legacy Day. Medical Professionals are asked to send pictures of themselves working in the profession to sportmarketing@citadel.edu to be featured on the message board during the game.

The second Legacy Days will be celebrated as the Bulldogs take on Samford. Football and Women’s Golf alumni will be welcomed back to The Citadel and celebrated during the game. Alumni of theses respective sports are asked to click here to RSVP and purchase tickets for the event.
