Fallout 76 rolls out its latest update, The Pitt, which brings players back to a familiar location from Fallout 3 along with other new content.

Fallout 76 has just launched its latest major update, The Pitt, and it's bringing a variety of new features and activities into the post-apocalyptic MMO. Fallout 76 players can engage in new expeditions into The PItt for unique rewards, rank up through the new Season 10, and benefit from a healthy dose of bug fixes and other design changes and improvements.

2018 saw the rocky launch of Fallout 76, Bethesda's attempt at bringing the Fallout universe into a multiplayer setting. The game received a significant amount of criticism from critics and players due to the presence of numerous bugs typical of a Bethesda RPG along with stale gameplay and a notable lack of non-playable characters that normally bring these games to life. Despite the troublesome reception, Bethesda has been hard at work addressing many of these problems through major updates, including the Wastelanders update that finally brought non-playable characters into the game.

The Pitt update for Fallout 76 is a major expansion that implements a new Expeditions system into the game, allowing players to venture into post-war Pittsburgh where Fallout 3's The Pitt DLC took place. Two new missions take players into The Pitt where they'll help the Union fight off a band of Fanatic Raiders seeking to expand their territory. Players must charge up the Vertibird aircraft's battery to launch the expedition into one of the new missions, which feature three randomized objectives along with optional objectives in order to keep replays fresh. Successful runs award up to five legendary items, a Legendary Module, Legendary Scrips, Treasury Notes, loot, and XP.

Fallout 76's seasonal content is also moving on to its tenth season with this update, where players will ride shotgun beside Red Rocket on a road trip through Pittsburgh. As players rank up through the Season 10 Scoreboard, they'll unlock new weapon, armor, and Power Armor paint, Pitt-themed amenities for the C.A.M.P., new outfits, cosmetics, consumables, and plenty more. Players will also gain the new ability to craft items like weapons and Power Armor, such as the new modifiable Auto Axe and the Union Power Armor set.

Improvements to the starting experience include an upgrade to the starting gear for new players, fast travel improvements, and myriad bug fixes are all welcome additions to the game, adding on to the years of progress the game has made since 2018. With more content on the roadmap for later this year, Fallout 76 may be worth playing in 2022, especially for franchise fans who were put off by the initial reviews.

Introducing: Expeditions & The Pitt

We’re introducing the Expeditions system, which will take you and up to three other teammates beyond the reaches of Appalachia for the first time in order to complete challenging and repeatable Missions. While anyone can participate in an Expedition, we currently recommend reaching level 50+ for the best experience.

With more and more people returning to Appalachia, some have discovered the Responders of days past and decided to take up their mantle and mission to provide aid to anyone in need. This new generation of Responders have set up a base of operations inside The Whitespring Resort, and named it “The Whitespring Refuge.”

Recently, the Responders have managed to find and restore a Vertibird. With your help, they are hoping to use it to expand their efforts to distant settlements across the Wasteland.

Charge Up & Take Flight

To kick off an Expedition, you will need to make the Vertibird flight-ready by charging its Ultracite Battery Cell (Ultracell). Unfortunately, Ultracell charge is in short supply, and the Responders keep theirs tightly rationed.

After completing the “Responders Reborn” quest, you can visit the Whitespring Refuge every day to automatically start 3 different Refuge Daily Quests.

You can hold a maximum of 100% Ultracell Charge at any given time, and all of it will be consumed when you start a new Expedition.

Embark On Missions to The Pitt

A recent arrival to The Whitespring Refuge alerted the Responders to the dire situation in a city known as “The Pitt.” There, members of the Union are under siege by a vicious band of Fanatic Raiders, who are working to expand their “territory” by any means necessary.

Our first two Missions, “Union Dues” and “From Ashes to Fire” will take you deep into the heart of the conflict in The Pitt to bolster the Union’s efforts, save their people from the Raiders’ cruelty, and sabotage the Fanatics’ plans at every turn.

Once you’ve fully charged the Vertibird’s battery, open the Map, select the Expeditions icon, and move left or right to choose which Mission you’d like to start.

As you play through a Mission, you will receive 3 randomized objectives, which will help keep your experiences feeling fresh from one playthrough to the next.

Don’t worry if you need to step away from the game in the middle of a Mission, because the objectives are checkpointed. Even if you close the game, you will be able to pick up where you left off the next time you log in.

Every time you finish a Mission, you will earn up to 5 legendary items based on how many primary and optional objectives you and your team completed.

Once per week, you will earn a random item from the pool of rare Expeditions-themed rewards by completing all optional objectives during a Mission.

Please Note: Due to an issue discovered just before patch day, the weekly rare reward will not be available initially following today’s maintenance. We plan to hotfix this issue on Thursday, September 15, so that players can still earn their rare reward for this week. All other Mission rewards, like currencies, legendary items, and Modules, can still be earned today as normal.

With the arrival of Expeditions, were also introducing a new in-game currency, called “Stamps.”
